Master of culture, poetry and calligraphy

Since ancient times, calligraphy has been a matter of literati. Calligraphic works written by poets have the most cultural pattern, which can be passed down from ancient to modern. Wang Xizhi's "Preface to At the Orchid Pavilion", Li Bai's "Shangyangtai", Su Dongpo's "Cold Food" and Mi Fu's "Sorghum" are all examples. So is Tan zhouwen, a famous contemporary poet and calligrapher. When we read his poems and look up to his calligraphy, there is always the feeling of passing on the wonderful culture from generation to generation. Mr. Tan, supported by both poetry and calligraphy, has made a great effort to inherit Chinese culture.

The style of contemporary poetry is often superficial. The superficial sense stems from their lack of oblique tones and rhymes. The writing ability of contemporary classical poetry is almost degenerated, and most of it is rhymes with no elegance at all. After reading The classical poetry of Mr. Tan Zhouwen, we can feel the solemn Canon of tang poetry quality again at present. He did not write poetry for pleasure, but for the larger scheme of national destiny. He has the virtue of Fan Zhongyan, and his writing is loyal to Yan Zhenqing.
