In 2005, Sichuan and Chongqing natives such as Xia Senlin, Doujiao, Qin Ge, and Lao Chen organized the Zhishang Basketball Team, which was later renamed the Sichuan-Chongqing Basketball Team. They have established the first weekend of November each year as their team’s anniversary.
After nineteen years of intense competition, Sichuan-Chongqing basketball stands tall at the forefront; after nineteen years of flourishing, Sichuan-Chongqing continues to rise. As time passes and the years roll by, we firmly believe that each participant is a crucial note in the Sichuan-Chongqing melody of the times, bridging talents and generations in the same historical stream, passing the torch of dreams with an unwavering spirit.
With 18 teams and 278 participants, the Xichong Chamber of Commerce Team (far right) is in high spirits!
Notably, the Xichong Chamber of Commerce Middle-aged Team drew significant attention. Comprising Sichuanese from Xichong working and living in Shenzhen, all aged over 40, including several entrepreneurs over 50, this team is a group of people who love life, sports, and are determined to strive. The team includes fathers and sons, brothers, classmates, and old friends who support their hometown of Sichuan in various ways while working in Shenzhen. They train and share basketball skills on the court and build connections and reminisce off the court, contributing actively to Shenzhen's development and Xichong’s progress.

For this event, they gathered from different areas of Shenzhen, starting their drive at 6 AM, arriving at the venue two hours early for warm-up. Some joked, “We’ve never been this dedicated even for client meetings or business,” to which player He Zhigang responded with a smile, “NBA players also arrive two or three hours early for warm-up. We must hold ourselves to the same standard.” Player Li Yiming, who had suffered a back injury just before the game, sought treatment from a therapist for three consecutive days to ensure his participation. The therapist was impressed by his determination and gave him a discount. Fortunately, Li was able to start the game and performed exceptionally well, becoming a key player for the team. Some players who couldn’t participate or were substitutes supported their teammates by cheering, scoring, and taking photos.

Li Zhongyong, President of the Xichong Chamber of Commerce in Guangdong Province, attended multiple training sessions and matches, encouraging players to perform well and exhibit their style. Although fellow player He Yuchun could not participate, he stayed updated in the group chat and sent heartfelt congratulations after the match: “To the brothers fighting in the 2024 Sichuan-Chongqing Basketball League: After two days of intense battles, you’ve worked hard! As 70s generation players, you continue to sweat on the court, advancing fearlessly and passionately. I am extremely proud and honored by you! Thank you for setting a positive example for your peers and younger generations, bringing immense positive energy! For you, the results are secondary; the importance lies in participation and enjoying the process. I hope you maintain this spirit throughout the competition, stay safe, and protect your teammates.” His heartfelt words deeply moved the hometown friends and teammates, lifting their spirits and energizing the group.

After the games, he enthusiastically called for more Xichong people in Shenzhen to join them: “Let’s connect through basketball and hope this event attracts more Xichong friends to join us. Xichong, let’s reach new heights!”
